I've been in the television industry one way or the other
for over 55 years and really liked many of them. Now I'm mostly retired
in La Mesa, CA where my wife Ellen and I have lived since 1973. Our two
sons have added a total of 5 grandchildren to the clan, but one family is
in Houston, TX and the other in Burlington, WA. We don't see enough of
them!
Other than ocean fishing and digital photography, my latest diversion is
teaching AARP's driver safety program here in the San Diego area.
Formerly known as "AARP 55 Alive", this two session, 8 hour program helps
we oldies avoid collisions.
I spend a lot of time on the computer ---- some of it communicating with
The Sagacious Pixel about the Order of The Iron Test Pattern. Probably my
greatest claim to fame in the industry is the fact that I dreamed up,
started, and ran the Order for most of its life. My biggest reward for
doing this is watching it come alive again on the Internet under the baton
of Larry Bloomfield, present conductor.
When I gave up being an Army Signal Corp field radio officer at the end of
World War 2, I picked up a BS degree in engineering (electrical) from
Princeton. The only new thing going in 1947 was the start of television
in Cleveland so I fell into an opportunity teaching television repair.
Eventually I ran my own TV service corporation (TeleClinic) until they
finally learned how to build receivers that worked for over 90 days in a
row. As a result, the service business stopped booming and I moved on to
work for equipment manufacturers.
The list includes Jerrold Electronics Corporation (where I was in charge
of Market Research and Product Planning); Conrac (where I ended up as
General Manager of this monitor manufacturer); Dynair (where I was VP
Sales and Marketing of this routing switcher manufacturer).
After I first retired from Dynair at age 65 I became a market development
consultant to manufacturers and distributors of television equipment, It
kept me off the streets for over 10 years and I started to taper down to
zero work from then on to the present.
